2025 Standards for Accreditation Revisions for Public Comment

The Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC) is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of education for midwifery programs across the United States. MEAC’s standards are continuously reviewed and revised to reflect the evolving landscape of midwifery practice, healthcare needs, and educational methodologies.

The process of revising MEAC’s standards is a rigorous and collaborative effort that involves input from a wide range of stakeholders, including midwifery educators, practitioners, students, and healthcare experts. This process ensures that the standards remain relevant, comprehensive, and aligned with national healthcare goals, while maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of midwifery training programs.

The importance of the standards revision process cannot be overstated. By regularly updating the accreditation criteria, MEAC ensures that midwifery programs provide students with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills required to offer safe, evidence-based care. These revisions promote continual improvement within educational institutions, safeguard the quality of care provided to families, and help midwives stay ahead of emerging trends and practices in the field.

Ultimately, MEAC’s standards revision process helps to shape the future of midwifery education, fostering programs that produce highly qualified midwives capable of delivering exceptional care to diverse communities.

Public Comment will be open from July 26, 2025-August 26, 2025.

Preaccreditation Public Comment

Part of the accreditation review process includes soliciting comments from members of the public who are familiar with the school. Comments undergo review only by MEAC staff, the committee of peer reviewers conducting review of the program (none of whom are affiliated with the program), and MEAC board members, excluding any who may be affiliated with the program, as they consider whether the school is in compliance with the MEAC Standards for Accreditation.

Your name and email address will be kept confidential, and all personally identifying information will be redacted from the submission before the MEAC committee or board reviews your comment.  However, name and email are required to prevent duplication of comments.
