In 2014, the Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery (FAM) granted $4,000 to MEAC to fund research identifying and better understanding the barriers to MEAC accreditation of direct-entry midwifery education. MEAC identified twenty-five unaccredited midwifery schools and created a database. Fourteen of the twenty-five identified schools participated in a survey, and twelve of those then agreed to participate in one-on-one interviews to share more reflections on accreditation and midwifery education.
MEAC is pleased to release our report to the midwifery community with recommendations to begin addressing the identified barriers.
