Midwifery Schools

Midwifery schools that choose to undergo accreditation do so because of their commitment to excellence in the field. There are many benefits of accreditation to schools, students, and consumers.

Schools In the Process of Applying for Accreditation

The process of applying for accreditation takes time. Generally, from the time a school submits a Part I Application for Initial Accreditation to the point where they are granted preaccreditation is about a year. If the school is approved, only students enrolled at the time preaccreditation is granted and those enrolling after that date will be considered to have graduated from a school with a MEAC accreditation status. Accreditation is not retroactive. Submission of an application for initial accreditation is not a guarantee of preaccreditation  or initial accreditation.

Note that once a school becomes preaccredited they will be listed above.

Please click here to provide public comment on these schools. MEAC takes all public comment into consideration when making a decision about a school’s readiness for accreditation.

  • International Institute for Health Care Professionals, Direct Entry Midwifery Program
    • Application for Initial Accreditation accepted July 26, 2022. Preaccreditation decision anticipated in October 2023.
  • Midwest Maternal Childbirth Institute
    • Application for Initial Accreditation accepted January 5, 2022. Preaccreditation decision anticipated in December 2023.

If a school is not listed in the “currently preaccredited and accredited schools” section above or in this list of applicant schools, then they are not in the process of applying for accreditation, preaccredited, or accredited by MEAC.

Schools considering or preparing to apply for MEAC accreditation are prohibited from declaring their intention to become MEAC accredited or claiming to have submitted an application until they have actually done so and had the application approved (at which time they will be listed above).
